Hi, I am new to acupuncture and am trying it out due to a thing called ‘Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome’ which is more or less a diagnosis they give men when you have a problem somewhere between your knees and nipples. It’s often called prostatitis which is a misnomer in most cases.

I started acupuncture 2-3 weeks ago. The first few sessions were fine and I noted some improvement. However, last week I had a session and later that day the pain flared up big time. Worst it’s been in months. I blamed it on spicy food and the pain dwindled a little bit each day. This past Tuesday I had another session and later that day it flares up again to 9/10. It was back in the zone where catastrophic thinking becomes a thing because you are so miserable. Luckily it started dying down after about 24 hours.

Now, with physical therapy they tell me it’s common to have issues flare up when doing treatment because you are more or less agitating problem areas. Does this concept also apply when doing acupuncture? I plan on asking my acupuncturist next week about it but I figured I would ask on here to get a quicker response as well as additional view points.

    Our evaluation shows that the use of these medicines, often referred to as gabapentinoids, has been growing for prescribed medical use, as well as misuse and abuse. Gabapentinoids are often being combined with CNS depressants, which increases the risk of respiratory depression. CNS depressants include opioids, anti-anxiety medicines, antidepressants, and antihistamines. There is less evidence supporting the risk of serious breathing difficulties in healthy individuals taking gabapentinoids alone. We will continue to monitor these medicines as part of our routine monitoring of all FDA-approved drugs.
