Unfortunately, the functionality of this vital part of the body can be compromised by disease or injuries. Chronic back pains can make even the most basic movements seem difficult. Back pains cause the loss of an estimated 264 million work days every year. While some of the back pains are minor, others are stubborn and require medical intervention. Can A Chiropractor Relieve My Chronic Sciatic Nerve Pain

Chiropractors can treat more issues than most people realize. Yes, the spine is their specialty but chiropractors truly care for the entire musculoskeletal system. Sciatic nerve pain is included in the many of issues they treat.

The main four treatment methods chiropractors perform for sciatic nerve pain are:

  • Ice therapy is as simple as it sounds, apply ice to the area you are experiencing sharp pains to help reduce the inflammation. This usually continues for 2 to 7 days. Another great method with ice therapy is an ice massage.
  • TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Electrical pads will be applied to your body in the locations you are experiencing pain and they will send small controlled electrical current through to reduce pain and muscle spasms. It feels like a massage .
  • Ultrasounds are used to increase circulation and reduce swelling, stiffness, and muscle spasms through the gentle heat waves the ultrasound create. These heat waves penetrate deep into the tissues.
  • Adjustments are used to get your body back into proper alignment. This is also referred to manual manipulation because it is where the chiropractor uses their hand to realign your body the way it is suppose to be.  It helps with movement restrictions, nerve irritations, muscle spasms, inflammation, and other related symptoms to sciatica.
  • You may have a combination or just one of these methods used to help relieve your sciatic nerve pain.

Neuropathy: What Is It And How Chiropractic Treatment Can Help

If you are suffering from neuropathy pain and looking for a chiropractic treatment center in Dallas, look no further than ChiroRehab, Texas. Our expertly trained professionals will be able to provide the relief you need. Call us today at 369-4777!

Neuropathy is a neurological condition that affects the peripheral nerves and can be caused by many different factors. Some causes of neuropathy are diabetes and chemotherapy treatments. The symptoms of neuropathy vary depending on the type of nerve damage, which includes loss of sensation in hands or feet, tingling, pain, muscle weakness, and difficulty walking or standing. In some cases, a doctor may require surgery to repair damaged nerves, but chiropractic care has been found to help reduce these symptoms in most people with neuropathy.

    All Studies Have Limitations

And this one is no exception. While this study suggests that chiropractic care may be helpful for low back pain, some aspects of the study make it hard to be sure. For example:

If any of these factors had been different, the results might have been different. For example, its possible that if an older population of people with chronic low back pain had been studied, “usual care” might have been the better treatment.

What Are The Symptoms Of Muscle Knots

Shoulder, Arm and Elbow Pain Chiropractor Chicago ...

Pain is the primary symptom of muscle knots. Since everyone experiences pain differently, your symptoms may vary from those of someone else. However, most people agree that muscle knots feel swollen, tense, or bumpy, and cause an aching sensation.4

Depending on where in the body the muscle knot is located, it may cause seemingly unrelated pain in other areas. For example, a muscle knot in the neck can send pain into the base of the skull, causing a tension headache.4

Can Chiropractic Help Shoulder Pain And Other Shoulder Problems

Yes. Chiropractors are often known as experts of the spine, but that is not all they are capable of working with. Chiropractors are trained to adjust every joint in the body, except teeth. Many people overlook the fact that a chiropractor can help with more than just neck and back pain. Common problems with feet, ankles, knees, hips, wrists, elbows, and certainly shoulders can be corrected with chiropractor care. Even the three small bones in the ear can be gently adjusted. The ear adjustment alone has proven to be beneficial for ear infections. Some chiropractors have trained to adjust the bones in your skull. Using applied pressure to balance the suture joints to help with migraines, reading ability, autism symptoms and other brain functions.

    Symptoms Of Sciatic Nerve Damage

The sciatic nerve is a bundle of nerves that winds through the spinal column, joining together at the base of the spine. The sciatic nerve then runs under the gluteal muscles of the buttocks, through both legs to the feet. When the sciatic nerve is pinched or under pressure, it can cause irritation, called sciatica, he said.

Sciatica can range from mild to debilitating and include symptoms like:

    • Tingling or burning in the toes, feet or lower leg
    • Pain that radiates down one leg and often gets worse while sitting
    • Pain thats isolated more in the buttocks or leg than the lower back
    • Low back pain thats isolated on one side and shoots down the leg

More severe symptoms of sciatic nerve damage can include weakness of the leg, impaired bowel or bladder control, numbness in one leg or severe pain, he said.

The most common cause of sciatica is pressure on one of the lower lumbar nerve groups, he added, which is why spinal decompression can help.

Low back pain and sciatica do not have to reduce your quality of life, Wootton said. Our team is trained to help alleviate sciatic nerve damage, so you can get back to doing the activities you enjoy.

    Shoulder Pain In Nepean

The most appropriate treatment for your shoulder pain is often dependent on its cause. Fortunately, chiropractic care has been shown to be effective for most shoulder conditions. Our chiropractors at Capital Chiropractic will begin with an evaluation of the spine, concentrating on the neck region. The neck and upper back are the areas that all of the muscles and structures that control the shoulder joint originate from. If the communication between the nerves and the structures that they control is interfered with due to spinal misalignments, a cascade of problems can begin. In addition to the structures these nerves control, research has shown that many cases of shoulder pain are actually due to referred pain from the neck region.

If the shoulder pain persists following the correction of spinal misalignments, our doctors at Capital Chiropractic are trained and have the experience necessary to provide adjustments to the shoulder complex. Additional manual and passive therapies are often utilized at our office in conjunction with the chiropractic care to help ensure a fast recovery.

In any event, whether the pain is originating from the spine or is actually caused by damage to the shoulder joint, chiropractic care can provide a non-invasive and effective treatment option for the condition. Contact Capital Chiropractic in Nepean today to see if you can benefit from chiropractic care.

  • Is Chiropractic Safe For Neck Pain

Licensed chiropractors can safely administer spinal adjustments to the neck. Routine chiropractic care can provide you with a safe, non-invasive, non-addictive alternative to prescription medications or over-the-counter pain medications , which are commonly prescribed to patients to help them manage their pain and swelling.Chiropractic adjustments reduce joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine and other joints, which can reduce inflammation and improve function of both the affected joint and nervous system. This gives your body the ability to better manage the discomfort in the neck.

Research shows that patients with chronic neck pain enrolled in clinical trials reported significant improvement following chiropractic adjustments. As part of a literature review published in the March/April 2007 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, researchers reviewed nine previously published trials and found high-quality evidence that patients with chronic neck pain showed significant pain-level improvements following spinal manipulation. Additionally, all groups showed positive changes up to 12 weeks post-treatment.

What Are The Causes Of Shoulder Injury And Pain

Shoulder pain can be caused by a number of conditions. The most common cause of injury in sports players and gymnasts is the rotator cuff. Since these players use their upper body regularly, it tends to create increased stress on the shoulder joint.

Any activity that leads to repetitive shoulder movement can also result in injury. Not only athletes, but people who work in an environment that involves repetitive motion or excessive upper body work are also prone to experiencing shoulder injury. This means that construction workers, truck divers, assembly line workers and those doing desk jobs are at a greater risk of developing shoulder injuries.

Chiropractic Care For Neck And Shoulder Pain

Well, it is no secret that shoulder pain often brings neck pain. Imagine an antique scale that is meant to provide a balance between its two sides to show when the sides are equal.

Each side is directly affected by the other. The middle balancing mechanism takes on the biggest portion of alteration and allows for the other side to represent the difference. The neck often takes on this role of a middle mechanism between the shoulder units. When one shoulder has an issue that needs attention, great tension can develop in the neck area.

Chiropractic treatments work to bring alignment back into the body as a whole, directly healing to the neck as well as either one or both shoulders.

Perhaps you are uncertain if your pain actually originates from the neck or one shoulder or the other. You may have pain in both shoulders and your neck. Sometimes we do not realize the impact that our daily activities can have on our bodies. It is easy in todays modern world to get into repetitive postures that can dramatically affect the bits of us that we cannot see. Then, once we become aware of our habits, it can take some work to get us back to a pain-free status.

Can Chiropractic Care Treat A Frozen Shoulder

How Chiropractic Care Relieves Shoulder Pain

About 2% adults aged 40 to 60 years old suffer from a frozen shoulder occurs at some point in their life. Frozen shoulders are more often seen in women as compared to men, the reason behind which remains unexplored.

A frozen shoulder is when your shoulder becomes very stiff and painful so that movement of the shoulder becomes restricted and theres a decreased range of motion.

Frozen shoulder occurs due to the connective tissue present in the shoulder joint becoming thick and taut and resulting in the formation of tough bands of connective tissue, called adhesions. The mechanism behind why the body behave this way is unknown.  Most orthopedic consultants suggest surgery to remove these band adhesions, but chiropractic care has been proven to offer extreme relief in healing this painful problem without surgical intervention.

Can A Chiropractor Fix Neck And Shoulder Pain

Your neck and shoulders contain a wide range of muscles, bones, nerves, ligaments and other supporting structures. Many conditions can cause pain in the neck and shoulder area, from a traumatic injury and degenerative health conditions to poor posture. Pain can range from soreness or tenderness in the general area to sharp stabbing pains in cases of extreme neck and shoulder pain.

Chiropractic care can be extremely beneficial when it comes to chronic neck and shoulder pain relief. Chiropractors use a holistic approach and their expertise regarding the musculoskeletal and nervous system to find the root cause of the pain and the best approach to treating it.

    What Causes Muscle Knots

Muscle knots, also known as myofascial trigger points, are complex and have a variety of possible causes. There is a lot more research to be conducted on the matter, but the best available evidence suggests that muscle knots are the result of overuse2 such as heavy lifting or repetitive activities. Other causes may include:

    • Psychological stress1
    • Sleep disturbances5
    • Joint problems5

Muscle fibres are made to move contract and relax lengthen and shorten, says Dr. Adrian Chow, DC. However, when we sit at the computer all day, with very little movement in between, these muscle fibres begin to stick to each other, forming a knot. Bad posture also puts stress on our muscles, and with enough time, this stress can cause the formation of scar tissue.

What Should I Do If I Think I Have A Pinched Nerve

If you think you have a pinched nerve, consult with our chiropractors. A pinched nerve can prevent you from sleeping well, going to work, taking care of your family and enjoying your favorite hobbies. Left untreated, a pinched nerve can even cause the breakdown of a protective barrier surrounding the nerve, and this can lead to swelling, extra pressure and scarring that can interfere with the nerves function. The sooner you undergo treatment, the sooner you can return to your normal life.

    Shoulder Pain And Chiropractic

How Do Chiropractic Adjustments Help My Neck Pain From Your Baltimore Area Chiropractor

To minimize complications from your shoulder injury, you should seek an evaluation if you have shoulder pain that lasts past a few days. Even though there are many causes of shoulder pain, the treatment for most conditions is similar. It is important to keep the shoulder moving to avoid the complication of frozen shoulder. Your Chiropractor will tell you what shoulder motions to emphasize and which ones to avoid as your injury heals. Therapeutic treatments, such as ultrasound and ice, can be used to remove the inflammation in the shoulder. Removing the inflammation in the joint usually results in a significant decrease in pain. Specific muscle stretching and at home exercises are used to correct any muscular imbalances between the upper back and chest. Correcting these imbalances helps to ensure smooth and even shoulder motion. Most shoulder conditions do not require surgery. However, if your pain does not resolve with these conservative treatments, further testing, such as an MRI, may be required to determine exactly how much shoulder damage is present.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help Relieve Shoulder Pain

For most people, the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body. Surrounded by nerves, bursa, tendons, and other tissues that can experience or cause irritation, its not surprising that shoulder pain affects millions of people in the United States each year. Depending on the cause and specifics of your own shoulder condition, theres a good chance chiropractic care can help.

A Recent Study On Chiropractic Care For Low Back Pain

A 2018 study published in JAMA Network Open is among the latest to weigh in on the pros and cons of chiropractic care for treating low back pain. Researchers enrolled 750 active-duty military personnel who complained of back pain. Half were randomly assigned to receive usual care while the other half received usual care plus up to 12 chiropractic treatments.

After six weeks of treatment, those assigned to receive chiropractic care:

    • reported less pain intensity
    • experienced less disability and more improvement in function
    • reported higher satisfaction with their treatment
    • needed less pain medicine.

While no serious side effects were reported, about 10% of those receiving chiropractic care described adverse effects . Five percent of those receiving usual care had similar complaints.

A Few Reasons Shoulder Pain Can Happen

Ultimately, determining the cause of Shoulder pain is necessary in order to provide the proper care to you, the patient. The source of pain can find its origin in many places. But, one very common cause stems from abnormal neck positioning.

Here in this video, Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck help you to determine exactly what is causing your shoulder pain, with simple tests you can do right now at home.

Once again, because there can be so many causes to your shoulder pain it is best to be physically evaluated by a competent Chiropractor such as myself!

Another reason for Shoulder Pain, is a misalignment in the spine causing nerve interference is present which can cause abnormal function in the muscles surrounding the shoulder complex.

What does this lead to? A persistent problem where massages, stretches, exercises, and other remedies may provide temporary relief but no lasting, long-term benefit or fix.

This is a key indication that the Shoulder pain may be originating from a central cause. When postural/spinal deviations are found during a chiropractic evaluation, it changes how the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and ultimately joints function.

Chiropractors address this by adjusting the spine, shoulder, and other joints to alleviate misalignment and dysfunction. This allows not only shoulder pain treatment but also optimal function.

What Symptoms Develop Along With Shoulder Pain

    Shoulder Pain Relieve Near You

Shoulder pain often appears together with other symptoms, including:

    • Arm weakness
    • Restricted range of motion

If your shoulder pain doesnt get better or other symptoms appear, dont wait to schedule an appointment at Lifecare Chiropractic. If you keep using an injured shoulder, you can cause further damage and develop chronic instability.

Why Are Healthy Shoulders Important To The Body

What is the most commonly dislocated joint in the body? Yep, you guessed it. With the fingers racing just behind, the shoulder is the most commonly dislocated joint in the body. The amount of action that this joint gets from the activities of our normal lives is tremendous. Sports, movement of large heavy objects, work-related duties, and repeated basic daily tasks all put this important joint at risk for injury and pain.

Function and mobility of the shoulder joints rank at the height of importance for many individuals. From combing our hair to tying our shoes, our shoulders must operate to help us complete nearly all of the tasks that we encounter. We would look pretty funny trying to brush our teeth with our knees. Were we to desire to brush with our feet, chances are our shoulders would still shift in the process. Their placement on the body makes them functionally important to the rest of the body.

Falls add to the likelihood of shoulder and elbow injury. If we lose our balance or begin to fall, we often try to catch ourselves with an arm in some manner. This movement places the shoulder and elbow right in the line of impact, often causing these joints to absorb the force of the fall. Ouch!

    Symptoms Of Shoulder Injury

Due to the wide range of causative factors, shoulder pain and abnormal motion in the joint may develop gradually or come on suddenly. Symptoms of a shoulder injury are occasionally very subtle, but even these can develop into major issues. Since the shoulder joint is used in the vast majority of activities that we engage in daily, all symptoms involving the shoulder should be monitored carefully and treated promptly to avoid progression of the problem. Symptoms indicating the need for an immediate evaluation of the shoulder complex include:

    • Shoulder pain that lasts for more than a week
    • Shoulder pain that goes away and then returns frequently
    • Difficulty raising your arm above your head
    • Trouble or pain when carrying objects
    • Pain in the shoulder joint that becomes more pronounced in the evening
    • Any visual signs of damage to the joint such as bruising or swelling
    • Unusual snapping or clicking sensations in the joint during movement

    Paying For Private Chiropractic Treatment

Most people who have chiropractic treatment pay for it privately. It usually costs around £30 to £80 per session.

You do not need to see a GP before making an appointment, but it’s best to speak to them for advice first. They can let you know about other treatments that might help, and can advise you if chiropractic is suitable for you.

If you decide to contact a chiropractor yourself, make sure they’re registered with the General Chiropractic Council . By law, all chiropractors must be registered with the GCC.

Check the GCC register to see if a practitioner is registered and find chiropractors in your area.

    Rotator Cuff Injury And Pain

Rotator cuff syndrome is caused by inflammation, swelling, or even tears in the muscles and tendons in the rotator cuff. The most common tendon injured in rotator cuff syndrome is the supraspinatus tendon. The supraspinatus tendon is on the top of the shoulder and is located between two bones. Whenever you raise your arm to the side and up to your ear, the supraspinatus tendon can be pinched between the two bones. Any muscular imbalances between the upper chest and the upper back can place the supraspinatus tendon in a position where it is even more likely to be pinched. Muscular imbalances between the chest and upper back are common because many people have poor posture and tend to let the shoulders sag forward. Rotator cuff syndrome causes shoulder pain in the front and side of the shoulder, and the pain is often worse at night. Lifting the arm to the side, especially if you are holding anything, is very painful. Any activity that involves a lot of overhead arm motion, such as swimming, throwing, or even sleeping with your arm up, can cause rotator cuff syndrome.

Can A Chiropractor Help With Pinched Nerves

When you have a pinched nerve, every twist, turn or little movement can be excruciatingly painful.  A pinched nerve can be caused by any number of things.  Maybe you slept wrong and just woke up with pain.  Maybe you did a workout and felt something painful when you moved.  Maybe you bent down to pick up something or turned around to look at someone and suddenly experienced the pain of a pinched nerve.  This painful experience is most often caused by a subluxation, or misalignment, of the spine.  Simply put, a vertebra in the spine is twisted, turned, or out of place, causing a nerve to be compressed in an unnatural way.  With this pinched nerve comes tingling, numbness, and usually a whole lot of pain.  For some, the pain can be so great that it disrupts their everyday life.  When your pain level reaches this point, you may be wondering how you can go on living this way.  Thankfully, a Charlotte chiropractor can correct subluxations and alleviate pain from pinched nerves.
